Page Twenty-Eight - So That Others May Live

 Remembering the Organ Donor.

The past weekend, I bid fair well to the Organ Donor who sacrificed herself so that Alphie may live.  You may recall that when I first purchased Alphie, I thought I only needed one piece of shit British car.  Once I carved off the pounds of Bondo from Alphie's snoz, I realized she would need some organ transplants.  So I called my man who sold me the car and told him that I needed the one he offered as a parts car.  The Donor was slumbering peacefully in her grave until June of 2019.

I knew as soon as we snatched the Donor from her grave that she would never see the road again.  After laying with her belly on the ground for 30 plus years, her frame was flaky rust - see the pic.  In fact, to open her doors, I had to put a floor jack under the rockers and jack her up a couple of inches because she was sagging in the middle.

Pic taken before unloading the Donor from the trailer.  You can see the X frame is rusted through and the blue is the driver seat poking through the floorboard.  Terminal cancer
We will honor the Organ Donor through Alphie who wears many of her parts: her snoz, her overdrive transmission, her differential, and many skin transplants too numerous to list.

Here are some pics to mark The Organ Donor's passing.  You were a good little Sunbeam!

Peaceful slumber

A laborious climb from the grave.

Before all the indignities

Tickerectomy
Snozectomy

Just another indignity...

Das Boot

The Final Indignity!
With the help of a neighbor and his tractor, we loaded the Organ Donor on my trailer for the final indignity, the metal recyclers.  The Donor's corpse weighed 580 lbs and netted a mear $34.80 for scrap, a pittance for such a heroic little roadster...

Thanks for everything - The Organ Donor 1964-2022
